Comment to the statement "In capitalist society the general intellect has been appropriated by the expansive process of capitalist production, and turned against the individuals, academics and students, who produced that knowledge."
-- this may be true true, but to add nuances into the analysis: Something happened to the capitalist societies since the Grundrisse was written. E.g., elitist universities for the high class became mass universities for high and middle class. The societies in the 20th Century became a mix of capitalist economics and institutions of social wellfare state, to some extent for "the common good", thanks to the struggles of social democrats, the working class movement, trade unions etc., and influenced that historical compromise between a capitalist market and state institutions mediating also working class interests. What's at state today is maybe not so much capitalism in itself as those specific neoliberalist interventions into the classic welfare states (e.g., New Public Management) threatening also the democratic institutions and the former more democratic governance models.
